DAILY-EARNING ACCOUNT
Daily-earning account calculations
On most daily-earning accounts the advertised rate does not apply to the whole balance; part of it waits in the current account and earns nothing. The Daily mode of Bankacı's deposit calculator takes that part out and shows the real rate and the term deposit rate that would earn the same. The calculation is in the app and the member portal; this page explains how it is worked out.

The account has two parts
Part of the balance waits in a current account and earns nothing. The rest moves into a one-day term deposit every night and earns interest. The part that earns every day cannot be a demand deposit, because interest on demand deposits may not exceed 0.25% a year (TCMB Communiqué 2020/3). Each night's deposit is reopened at that day's rate; the rate holds for the day and may change the next.
How the non-earning part is set
Some banks set aside a percentage of the balance, for example 10%. Most set aside a fixed amount by the band the balance falls in, for example 150,000 TL on a balance of 1,000,000 TL. With a fixed amount, a balance that moves into the next band has more set aside, and the day's interest can fall. Some accounts set nothing aside.
The advertised rate does not reach the whole balance
Interest runs only on the earning part. The real gross rate on the whole balance is the advertised rate's share that falls on the earning part: on an account advertised at 44% with 10% earning nothing, 44% × 0.90 = 39.60%. That rate is still before withholding; banks quote their rates as annual, gross, before withholding.
The formula
Earning amount = balance × (1 − non-earning percentage); with a fixed amount, balance − the amount set aside. Real gross rate = advertised rate × earning amount / balance. Simple rate after withholding = real gross rate × (1 − withholding). If interest is added every day, the annual net yield, with a percentage and a fixed rate, comes to (1 + advertised rate × (1 − non-earning percentage) × (1 − withholding) / 365) ^ 365 − 1. The term equivalent is the gross rate a deposit renewed every 32 days, withheld at 17.5%, would need to give the same annual net yield: ((1 + annual net yield) ^ (32 / 365) − 1) × 365 / 32 / (1 − 0.175). Each day the gross interest is rounded to the kuruş, the withholding comes off and the net interest joins the balance, where it earns the next day.
Example: 1,000,000 TL, advertised at 44%, 10% non-earning, 32 days
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Advertised rate | 44.00% |
| Non-earning amount | 100,000 TL (10%) |
| Real gross rate | 39.60% |
| Simple rate after withholding | 32.67% |
| Annual net yield (interest added daily) | 38.62% |
| 32-day term deposit equivalent, gross | 40.15% |
| Gross interest | 35,203.79 TL |
| Withholding (17.5%) | 6,160.65 TL |
| Net interest | 29,043.14 TL |
| Balance after 32 days | 1,029,043.14 TL |
| Compared with a 32-day term deposit at 44%, net interest | 31,824.66 TL |
| Difference, in the term deposit's favour | 2,781.52 TL |
Advertised at 44%, this account earns what a 32-day term deposit at 40.15% gross would. The same money in a 32-day deposit at 44% would bring 2,781.52 TL more net interest. Had the interest been added once at the end, the daily account's net interest would have been 28,642.19 TL. The balance is assumed to stay put; rates can change daily and the result is an estimate. The figures in the example are illustrative and do not describe any bank's product.
Withholding is 17.5% every day
On a lira daily-earning account the withholding is 17.5%. The basis is the line for "demand, notice and up to 6 months (6 months included)" in article 1/1-(d) of the decision attached to BKK 2006/10731; Presidential Decision 10041 set the rate (Official Gazette 9 July 2025, no. 32951). The bracket follows each transfer's one-day term, however long the money stays: money kept for 400 days pays 17.5% too. The decision applies the new rate to accounts opened or renewed after 9 July 2025; a daily account renews every night, so 17.5% has applied every day since. That is our reading, and the banks' product pages say 17.5% as well. It is withheld on each credit and is the final tax for an individual.
Deposit insurance
TMSF insurance covers principal and accrued interest together up to 1,200,000 TL per person per bank (the 2026 amount; Fund Board decision 2025/706, Official Gazette 13 December 2025). If balance and interest pass that amount during the period, the result carries a note.
What the calculator asks and shows
It asks for the amount, the advertised annual gross rate, the non-earning part (a percentage or a fixed amount), the days (with quick picks of 32, 92, 181 and 365), the withholding (starting at 17.5%, editable) and a term deposit rate to compare with. Under details are a welcome period and the rate after it, crediting (every day or at the end), a cap on the earning amount, a minimum for interest and the day basis (365, or 366 in a leap year). The result shows the real gross rate, the simple rate after withholding, the annual net yield, the 32-day term equivalent, gross interest, withholding and net interest, and the difference against a term deposit of the same length, withheld at its own term's rate. The result can be shared.
Frequently asked
What is the withholding on a daily-earning account?
17.5% on a lira account. The money moves into a one-day deposit every night, so the rate for terms up to six months applies however long it stays (BKK 2006/10731 art. 1/1-d, Decision 10041).
What does an account advertised at 44% really pay?
If 10% of the balance earns nothing, the real gross rate is 39.60% and the simple rate after withholding 32.67%. With interest added daily the annual net yield is 38.62%, the same as a 32-day term deposit at 40.15% gross.
Does a daily account or a 32-day deposit earn more?
It depends on the gap between the two rates and on the size of the non-earning part. On 1,000,000 TL over 32 days, a daily account advertised at 44% with 10% non-earning brings 29,043.14 TL net, a 32-day deposit at 44% brings 31,824.66 TL. The calculator puts the two side by side on the same amount.
Is the daily-earning calculation free?
Yes. The Daily mode is part of the deposit calculator; it is free in the app, with no Premium.
